Are you looking for a low odor polyurethane that performs better than old-school, oil-based finishes? PolyWhey 3500 ticks every box.

If even the small amounts of isocyanates and aziridine in modern floor finishes make you uncomfortable, let us introduce you to Vermont Coatings’ PolyWhey 3500. It is a waterborne whey and acrylic floor protection that relies on the by-products of milk production to create hard-wearing and easy-to apply finishes.

PolyWhey 3500 is a clear, waterborne wood-floor commercial grade topcoat which is comparable to Pallmann Pall-X Power, but with reduced carcinogens or mutagens and using all renewable ingredients.  But it still delivers everything you would expect in a high-end floor finish:

  • Rolls or t-bars on without lines or puddles
  • Superior 600sqft per gallon coverage
  • Dries to the touch in two hours
  • Reaches full-cure in seven days
  • Easy soap and water cleanup
  • Outstanding mar and scratch resistance

But it does all that with less risk to both humans and the environment. And don’t worry, just because it uses milk production by-products, it doesn’t look milky.

Yes, we know you’re skeptical about this low odor polyurethane concept. Your grandpa swears by those stinky finishes, so you think you should too. But the world really has made progress in this arena. If you want to really nerd out, read our blog post, “Why you should care about the VOC level of your floor finish.”

Coating Tips:

Recommended application system: For most applications, one coat of PolyWhey 3000 Wood Floor Sealer and 2-3 coats of PolyWhey 3500 Wood Floor Finish are recommended.
Add additional coats of PolyWhey 3500 for commercial or heavy-traffic residential flooring.

Recommended applicators: Light weight T-bar, 3/8″ nap micro-fiber or synthetic roller or painters pad.

Sanding between coats? Only if more than 24 hours has passed since the previous coat. Or if you got a bunch of dust in the wet finish. Use 180-grit pushed by a white pad on a flooring buffer, or just a 180 screen on sheetrock pole sander.

Coverage rate: 600-700 sqft per gallon

Available in satin and matte. Semi-Gloss available by special order.

Like all waterborne finishes, PolyWhey 3500 is not freeze/thaw stable. Please do not allow it to freeze. And be aware that if temperatures in Minnesota are below zero, we will hold your shipment until we have a warmer weather window.
