If you are using the Rubio Hybrid Wood Protector for exterior use, you absolutely must clean the wood first with the Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner. Yes, we know that sounds bossy, but these guidelines come straight from Rubio. Getting any finish to adhere well to exterior wood is difficult, but crucial to the performance and longevity of that finish. The better you prepare and clean your raw wood, the longer your Rubio will last.
On older wood, the biocides in the Exterior Wood Cleaner remove all traces of algae and mildew, as well as removing grey water-damage and removing grease. This gives you better adhesion and more even color absorption. On new woods, it helps to temporarily subdue the natural oils or resins in many wood species, which promotes adhesion of the Rubio Monocoat. And for both new and old wood, use of this water-based cleaner helps to “pop” or temporarily swell the wood grain, which allows the nano-particles of color to lodge deeply into the wood grain, giving you even, long-lived color.
It will foam as you apply it to old wood – that means it’s working!
Will not harm pets or plants.
Apply with a spray bottle for small projects, a clean pesticide sprayer for larger area, then scrub with a stiff brush.
Usage: 100-200 sqft per liter
